FTC Launches “Big Fat Lie” Campaign What do these products have in common? “Ultra LipoLean,” “1-2-3 Reduce Fat,” “Hanmeilin Cellulite Cream,” “Body-Trim/Bio-Trim,” “Chinese Diet Tea,” “Himalayan Diet Breakthrough,” and “Fat Foe.” All but one of them are products that in the last few weeks have been the targets of complaints filed by the Federal Trade Commission as part of its “Big Fat Lie” initiative to curb deceptive advertising and false claims surrounding alleged weight loss products. Which product did not get an FTC complaint? “Fat Foe” is actually advertised by the FTC itself, as a teaser ad to educate consumers who may be tempted by such ads.
